I've been working with Redemption Community Church for quite a few years now, and if I'm ever asked what my ideal client looks like, I just picture them.
One of the first projects we tackled together was their Moving Forward capital campaign, which helped them move into their first permanent home. Fast forward a few years, and they’re already outgrowing that space. (Not a bad problem to have.)
This time around, the campaign wasn't just about their future home. It was also helping launch a brand-new church in New York City. That's a pretty incredible mission to get to play even a small part in.
Pastors Jeremy and Amee are kingdom builders (and some of my favorite people). While fundraising, and all through the campaign process, they’ve kept in mind that it doesn’t matter what building they’re using. The bricks and seats are just tools. It’s simply about making room for more life change.
Once that became clear, everything else fell into place. We built the campaign around the heart of the mission instead of driving a theme of blueprints, bulldozers and hard hats. The campaign book, presentation graphics, print pieces, and supporting materials all worked together to tell one story. Not, "Look what we're building," but, "Look what God can do when there's room for one more person."
One of the things I've appreciated most about working with Redemption is that they don't see design as decoration. They see it as communication. Every project starts with purpose, and that makes my job a whole lot more meaningful. The best part, though, is that this wasn't the end of the story.
Since that first capital campaign, we've continued working together on sermon series, annual events, internal ministries, and just about everything in between. Those long-term relationships are my favorite. There's something really special about getting to grow alongside an organization, learning how they think, understanding their heartbeat, and helping tell the same story year after year.
